The pelvic floor is a set of muscles, ligaments and tissues that support several organs of our pelvic cavity (bladder, uterus, and rectum). Also, the pelvic floor muscles support the baby during pregnancy and assist during labour.
Pregnancy and childbirth (vaginal or C-section) can cause problems in the pelvic floor structures and cause various conditions like urinary/faecal incontinence, sexual dysfunction, lumbar pain, among others.
What is a Mummy MOT®?
Mummy MOT® is a comprehensive postnatal examination for women following vaginal and C-section deliveries, no matter how long.
During the Mummy MOT® appointment, your posture, how you move, how you are breathing, and the function of your abdominal and pelvic floor muscles will be assessed as well as any symptom you may have.
After that, you will receive a report of findings and a plan focussing on exercises and treatment to support your recovery and get you back on track with your fitness goals.
Mummy MOT® benefits:
The main goal is to identify any problems or discomfort and devise a recovery plan.
You can usually start Mummy MOT® programme 4 to 6 weeks after vaginal birth or 6 to 8 weeks after caesarean section birth. However, many women even years after gave birth may need help from a Mummy MOT® Physiotherapist.
In addition to Physiotherapy, it is important to have a balanced diet and exercise (depending on the doctor’s, dietitian/nutritionist specialist or your Physiotherapist’s indication) to obtain better results.
